The Sullivan Alliance to Transform America's Health Professions was established to increase diversity in the health professions and thereby help reduce disparities in health status and health care. The Alliance is comprised of former members of the Sullivan Commission on Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce and former members of the Institute of Medicine panel that examined diversity in the health professions. Dr. Louis W. Sullivan and Dr. Lonnie R. Bristow serve as chair and co-chair of the Alliance, respectively.

Drawing on the experience and expertise of leading health, business, higher education and legal experts, each group issued a report in 2004:
